Fill dirt delivery is simple work with a lot riding on it. The load has to be the right material, in the right spot. Dupree's Dirt and Excavation hauls fill dirt, select fill, topsoil, sand, gravel and crushed limestone by the load. Low ground gets built up, a bare drive gets rock, and a house pad gets the fill it takes.

Fill dirt is the bulk material. It builds ground up: low spots in a yard, the hole a stump left, ground that has settled. Grass roots poorly in it, so fill goes underneath and topsoil goes on top.
Select fill dirt is the graded version. It is picked or blended so it packs tight and holds its shape under weight. That is the fill that goes into a raised house pad once the topsoil and roots are stripped off. On a pad, the builder or an engineer says what the fill has to meet.
Rock is the other half of the list. Gravel and crushed limestone go where traffic runs: drives, parking pads, work areas and turnarounds. Sand is bedding and leveling material. Ask for river sand, gravel or limestone and we haul what the job calls for.
Dirt and rock are sold by the cubic yard. A cubic yard is a block three feet on every side, so it holds 27 cubic feet. To figure a job, measure the area in feet and settle on a depth in feet.
Then multiply length by width by depth, and divide by 27. Say a low spot runs 30 feet by 20 feet and needs 6 inches of fill. Six inches is half a foot, so 30 times 20 times 0.5 is 300 cubic feet. Divide 300 by 27 and the job takes about 11 cubic yards.
Dirt settles once it is spread and packed, so a job usually takes a little more than the math says. How many yards ride on a load depends on the material as well. Wet clay and rock weigh out before they cube out. We run the numbers with you on site, and the estimate is free.
We run loads out of Bastrop across Morehouse and Ouachita parishes, and on out to Minden and Tallulah. The biggest soil in Morehouse Parish is Perry clay, which cracks open in August and goes to soup in February. Around Monroe the natural levee ridges dig and drain well, and the ground off them is that same heavy clay. Low spots in clay like that take fill before they will ever hold grass.
Where the truck can back in decides the rest. Soft ground, wet weather, low limbs and overhead lines all matter, and so do septic tanks and field lines. Those private lines are not marked by Louisiana 811, so point yours out first. Some parish roads and bridges are posted for weight, which can change the way in.
Under the state air rule, open-bodied trucks hauling dusty material stay covered while they are moving. Earth carried onto a paved road gets removed promptly. Once the load is on the ground, land grading shapes it and slopes it so water runs off.
