Is my job too small, or too big?
We take both ends of it. One load of fill dirt dropped in a low spot in the yard is a job. So is several acres cleared with a pad and a drive behind it. Small commercial lots are welcome too.
What time of year can dirt work run in northeast Louisiana?
Most of the year, whenever the ground is dry enough to hold a machine. Bastrop averages a little over 58 inches of rain a year in the 1991 to 2020 NOAA normals. April is the wettest month, and late summer into early fall is the driest stretch. A wet winter week can push a job back, so we start when the ground will hold the weight.
Do I need a permit for this kind of work?
It depends on what the job is and on which city or parish it sits in. Some cities handle a teardown on the building permit form, and the parish permit office covers the unincorporated parish. Flood zone work brings the parish floodplain office into it. We point you at the right office before anything starts.
Do you call Louisiana 811 before you dig?
Yes. State law puts that call on the excavator, not on the homeowner. Louisiana 811 asks for at least two business days before the work starts. The marks cover lines that belong to 811 member utilities. Private lines on your side of the meter are not marked, so point out anything you have run yourself.
What happens to the debris and the dirt that comes off?
It is loaded in our dump truck and hauled off, or stacked where you want it on the place. Spoil from a dig can stay on site if you have a low spot that needs it. Debris from a demolition goes to a permitted landfill. Burning brush is the property owner's call under the state rule and any parish burn ban.
What work do you not take on?
We do not touch utility lines, septic systems or drainage systems like French drains, catch basins and storm pipe. We do not pour concrete, and tree trimming or tree removal near a house belongs to a licensed arborist. Call a utility contractor, a septic installer, a drainage contractor or a concrete finisher for that work. We stick to the dirt and work around them.
What area do you cover?
We are based in Bastrop and work about 60 miles around it. That takes in Monroe, West Monroe, Sterlington, Swartz, Farmerville, Ruston, Minden, Oak Grove, Delhi and Tallulah.
